1/2 Pedal Glyph

Hi there! I’ve noticed that going to Engrave mode and setting the global level to 1/2 for a piano pedal will add “1/2” before the Pet. glyph but won’t use the special 1/2 character available in the Bravura (or other) font.

Is there a workaround for that? I tried creating a special playing technique but I am not able to give it the pedal functionalities (using the extending lines and using the popover, etc.) of the normal pedal playing technique.

This is the way it appears by using the Global Level setting to 1/2 in Engrave Mode Screenshot 2025-03-19 at 11.49.06

And this is the way I want it to look (but to function as the normal pedal would in Dorico).

It’s a minor detail, but much nicer graphically to see the correct fraction used and not just a “1” followed by a “/” followed by a “2”. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi!

You can edit it in Library>Music Symbols>Pedal level: one half

**

Delete the default glyph and replace it by a text (on Windows, ½ is Alt+0189, Unicode is apparently U+00BD)

Then it will look like this (which seems to be what you are looking for?)

Ah! That’s exactly it. Thanks so much, @charles_piano. I didn’t think to look at Music Symbols. Do you know if this will change that symbol only on this project or also for future new projects created hereon?

Also, while I’m at it, I might also ask: Do you know how to achieve a half retake? I’ve looked everywhere but haven’t found a way to do it.

Elaine Gould shows it by changing the height of the retake and adding “(1/2)” on top of it, this way:

I have a passage with the full pedal down, but want the retakes to be half retakes, not full ones.

Click on the star at the bottom if you want to keep is as a default for your future projects.

Interesting notation indeed! Sorry, I don’t know how to reproduce it…

Thanks for all your help, Charles. I’ll post that question as a new topic to see if anyone can help with that half retake.
