1/8 note = 1/8 note at meter change

I have a score that has meter changes which require explaining. For example, I go from 4/4 to 6/8 where an 1/8 note in the old tempo = 1/8 note in the new. Later in the score, a transition from 4/4 to 6/8 requires 1/4 note = dotted 1/4 note.

Is there a way to use note symbols in text?

Yes, you can do this using the characters in the SMuFL Metronome marks range. When you create your Shift+X text item, change the font style in the top right-hand corner to ‘Music text’.
