15.0.20 Groupfolder behavior

Hey Steinis,

The group channels are really great idea, BUT:

Now the individual tracks (MIDI and audio) from the previous folders are missing from the project window:

When I activate the group folder, the volume automation lines are visible.

Can’t we do this the same way as with the other tracks, so that the volume is on demand? An arrow in the bottom left of the track icon? That would be much clearer.

Something else I noticed about the tracks: could you set it up so that only the volume value is visible and not the slider? A toggle switch for tracks in the settings?

Thanks for now.

Hi,

Would you mind giving us a bigger picture, please? What is a track, what is a folder…? What would be the expect behaviour?

Chords is a Folder and FX
You can see both tracks inside the folder in the overview! (Picture above)
When I activate Group folder the Overview is gone and there are only the Automation lines for the Volume faders.

FX are now groupfolders and the “Tarckpictures” are gone.

I’d like to continue viewing the overview of the individual tracks inside the Folder (MIDI/Audio) and be able to show or hide the volume automation lines for the group folders, using the lower-left triangle in the group folder icon, just like with all the other tracks.

Does that make sense?

Hi,

I think, I understand, what do you mean…

You would like to see the Folder 01 Event, the same way, as you can see the Folder 03 Event, right?

This is, how does it look like in the collapsed state.

So you don’t see any events on the Folder 01 track.

Am I right?

Yes, exactly.

You can right click the folder and choose show data on folder tracks and it will show the overview like the other one.

Nice, thanks!

That would be nice, or maybe I missed something there.

There’s a short passage in Chris Selim’s video on the 15.0.20 update. He mentioned that the sliders automatically turn into value fields if you minimalize the track header.

If you resize the channel header farther to the left, it shows only the value. That’s the only way I can think of.

There are so many little hidden features in Cubase that I can’t possibly remember them all. Sometimes I’ve already enabled them or disabled them somewhere else and then just forgotten about it, because you only do it once.

I really should read the manual again

Thanks

I have to remind myself of a lot of them from time to time too!! You’re very welcome!!:slightly_smiling_face:

If I remember correctly the slider behaviour in the track header is not a preference setting - it’s the new expected behaviour introduced with the 15.0.20 update.
But yes, Cubase is so incredibly feature rich it’s difficult to keep track of all potential setting options

I discovered that it’s a killing AI area. Their large models are still not as large as they should to contain all this, or the knowledge has been lost

Here the dialogue is greyed out. No overview like the “old” folder

I’m on Mac, newest OS.

Hello everyone,

@Elias1957, You need to uncheck “Show Automation” if you want to see the other options.

The ‘Show Data’ option works great, but it would be amazing to also display automation on top of the events, like a combined view.

The “normal” behavior of a track …

But what kind of automation? There could be several. Like everyone else, I think “normal” is great!

Indeed !
