[2.1.24] Track volume cut down if plugin added

When adding any plugin to Instert of the audio track, the sound is cut down by some 5 dB. Working that way every day I know that plugins I use don’t cut volume by default.
Reinstalled 2.1.22 and everything is okay with that. So it’s definitely a bug

Cannot confirm

  • new project
  • add audio test file sine -12 dB
  • insert “Brickwall Limiter” (tried both track channel, and “Song 1” channel)

track, limiter in, limiter out, and MAIN out all show -12 dB.

What do you do?

I open old project created in 2.1.22. First track has a fonogram for the song. No plugins added to Insert slots. Volume of the track is normal as it was in previous version: -10.65 dB. Then I add Brickwall Limiter and volume is -15.65 dB.
I mute plugin, now sound is back to -10.65 dB. Unmute and it’s again -15.65.
I will try on empty project.

I found one additional obstacle. Please check this - in your test sequence lower the volume of the track to -5 dB before you add Brickwall Limiter. The volume will change significantly.
So, if track volume is 0.00 dB, then everything seems okay, but if track volume is lower, then adding any plugin lowers volume significantly more.

If I lower track volume to -20 and the output goes to -25 dB, then after adding plugin the volume lowers to -45 dB. So there is some kind of multiplier.

And, if track volume is higher than 0.00 dB, then it becomes louder after the plugin is added.

HI @ArthurNeeman,

there must be something differently. That’s what I’ve done

  1. Start New Project
  2. Select Tracks, Add Audio Track and import audio file with sine tone and 0 dB Output
  3. Check Audio Channel → 0 dB
  4. Move Volume Fader to -10 dB. Output is -10 dB
  5. Load Brickwall Limiter. Output is still -10 dB
  6. Move Volume Fader to -20 dB. All fine. Output is still -20 dB

Can you create an example project? Audio File and built-in Plug-Ins. Then use the “Menu / File / Save Archive …” function to create an archive. Share it with us, please, so we can analyse it.

Thank you,
Michael

I see the same result as Micha.
BUT:
If I double-click the fader db and enter -10, it shows -10, but the fader is actually still at 0 dB.
Could this bug be the reason for your problem?

It appears to depend on the order of actions. Anyway, I can reproduce it and check.

We found and fixed the problem for the next version.

Actually, each insert will reduce level by as much as the channel level reduction. The channel is erratically processed once more for each insert.
Thanks a lot for the report!
