[2.1.26] BUG - Audio tracks losing assigned input in some situations

Hi @musicullum @Spork … finally i’ve been able to restrict the elusive bug bothering me singe 1.5 …!! got a video from new project, can reproduce it in 2 ways.

1st way - Connection lost on copy paste

1- new project, create 3 inputs in connections, 1 & 2 assigned to physical inputs, 3 left to ND.
2- create global part and 3 empty global stacks
3- create a folder track, then create 3 audio tracks inside the folder
4- assign each audio tracks to the 3 inputs and to the three global stacks outputs (the IN 3 will not be connected to any phisical input port)
5- create a second song
6- copy the folder from song 1 to song 2
7- Check connection in the copied tracks,
8- IN 1 and IN 2 will be correctly copied, whiler IN 3 being not connected to a physical port, will show ND on track input instead of IN 3.
9- check the original tracks, inputs will be correct, but outputs will have lost connection to the global stacks

10 - Variation: if 2 or more input connectons are assigned to the same physical input, the copied tracks will be assigned to only one of the inputs (example, IN 1 and IN 2 connected to same realtek audio in 1 device, the riginal track 1 connected to IN 1, track 2 connected to IN2 … the copied tracks will be both connected to IN2)

Watch the video below:

2nd way: same thing could happen if you open the project with a different audio interface with different numbers of phisical inputs, some of the input connection will be assigned to ND, and if you save the file, the next time you’ll open it the traks will show ND for the inputs that was resetted to ND in connections, even if you reopen it with the audio device with all the phisical connections needed.

I know it’s difficult to understand but this thing is driving me crazy for months because i have 40 songs each one with 7 tracks to record 7 stacks, resetting all the inputs is a pain each time thety screw up!!! and i often change the audio device because at home i work with integrated audio or with a UMC 4 in 4 out, at rehersals and gigs i have a UMC same driver, but this time with 18 in 20 out …

Inputs/outputs assigned to tracks should stick there even if the physical device is set to ND, or if the connection memeory is resetted via CTRL+ND in device/connection window !!
Hope this helps to identify and fix this!
Ciao! Ciro.

Thanks for the report.

Sure, there is nothing to connect to. But we see your point and will check if we can improve that.

Yes, this is a known issue, unfortunately not easy to solve - connecting a global instance to a local one and then disabling (unselecting) the local source it vanishes. We’re on it.

… it’s fixed, @ciro1983811. The fix has been pushed to the next Pre-Release. Could you please re-try and let us know your experience?

Thank you,
Michael.

Hi, is the video silent purposely, or is it my sound problem?

Hi I am having challenges with using the product:

  • frequent crashes, e.g. when saving, when changing to next song
  • lost changes even when saved, e.g. monitoring tracks
  • automation that disables itself (used for changing soloing patches)
  • MIDI sounds (Halion instances for piano and soloing) that suddenly switch themselves off when reloading a project
  • problems with setting up many instruments in Halion into one later layer (to save CPU) and change the instruments for soloing purposes, etc
Are there videos that one can watch? I am frustrated as I am new and have no one to help.

Hi @Mpheteng and welcome to VL and the forum.

You are not alone - there are many people here that will try to help you :grinning:.

The problems you mention seem unrelated to the topic being discussed here and may get lost in the “noise”. Can I suggest that you start a new topic (or a topic for each problem) - that will get you better attention and make it easier for the devs to keep track. I would also mention the VL version you are using and which OS.

When importing video you are being asked if you want to import audio too. A video track does not play audio.

We don’t accept crashes. Could you pls send us crash reports, thanks!
