VL is crashing on my new Computer/Windows11 Pro System and I can´t figure out what is happening here!
All started with the problem, that VL doesn’t save my Audio-Driver Settings so I have to set the correct driver on every startup to the YAMAHA Steinberg USB Driver because I am using an Steinberg 824 Interface.
Nothing about this driver is found in the .ini file at all?!?!
The I was asked to check the crashdumps and I found that every time I quit the VL App it crashes and writes a 33 MB Dumpfile to my drive without giving me a hint that it crashes.
I first thought, maybe this happens because of my installation path that was not C: but D: (all super fast SSD drives) but after uninstalling VST Live Pro and reinstalling it on C: nothing changed!
So what should I say now? Can someone please explain this to me?
VL is now running on the “default” installation path on a few weeks old new Computer that has more than enough power to handle this app!
Second, try “Help/Remove all user data”. This doesn’t cost you much, but you will need to apply changes to preferences you did, and re-configure some stuff here and there.
I already send @Spork access to my GDrive where I uploaded also the latest crashdumps from today.
This morning I re-installed VL to my drive C: and after updating Windows (regular Update) and one - two Re-Starts of the entire System VL now holds the correct Audio-Driver. There were no additional changes to the system.
So, one small step in the right direction!
No, but it’s really harmless. We do it from time to time to exclude corrupt user data. It’s just re-issuing some “Don’t show again” alerts, and you need to re-apply changes to preferences if different from their default values. No assets or project data are affected at all.
that was not the solution to the problem. I used “Help/Remove all user data”, saved the project, closed VL and did a Reboot of the System.
Then I opend the project, saved the project and closed VL.
And then I got anoter Crashdump file wich I already uploaded to the GDrive so that Spork has access to it.
Ah and the audio driver now has to be set on every programstart. Dont know how I managed to make it work this morning. But it is gone again!
… @Detgyver, thank you very much for getting access to the files. We’ve analysed the crash logs. It’s always crashing in the “license-access-engine.dll” - So, the License Management. Currently we are investigating it more to get it fixed.
we need some more information from your system to understand the crash. Can you please start the “Steinberg Activation Manager” application and run the “Create Diagnostic Report”, please? A Zip file will be created. Please send it to me or drop it here.
the next Pre-Release will save your current audio driver after a successful driver-switch.
To return to your crash. What happens when you start a new project and close it directly? Another crash and *dmp file? What’s your default instrument in the Song_1/Part_1/Layer_1?
No changes here with 2.1.5!
VST is still crashing on my system every time I close it using “quit”.
I added two new crashdumps to the Google-Drive folder.
… that’s right. The colleagues of the license-engine are still investigating your case. You remember? It’s crashing in the license-engine. Another idea could be that “HALion Sonic” causing the problem. You have many songs in your project, right? But you don’t need Layers, right? Can you check if a HALion Sonic instance is loaded somewhere?
I checked that and found a few Songs that had active “HALion Sonic” Settings in the Layer (coming from an very old Song-Template that I used to create the Songs) I removed this setting complete in ALL Songs and that changes nothing. It is still crashing. I did a double-check and a complete Restart and it is still crashing.
I loaded the two new crashdumps to the Gdrive fro you.
Update [2.1.7]
In 2.1.7 are no improvements here. The App is crashing when I close the App using “File/Exit”. I had previously assumed that crashes would not be accepted and that a solution would be found as quickly as possible. The last crash dump was even 77 MB in size. I have also uploaded this to the GDrive, which you have access to.
… I still have no news from our license-engine colleagues. I’ll contact them again. Sorry for that one. And can you please give me access to the latest crash dump, please?
