[2.2.36] Tempo Change problem for Audio Files

Hi there

My band have a few songs where the transition from one song to the next, is in such a way that they have to be within a single VST Live song (required to not cut of the lead in/out of the backing tracks).
I setup the transitions in a Cubase project, which I then exported to VST Live.
However, in VST Live the audio tracks goes out of sync on tempo track changes.

I’ve made a screencapture of the problem, using a simplified example in VST Live.

Here’s an example of the behaviour I expect, using the same files in Cubase.

I know that a workaround would be to zero-point all audio files, but doing any editing in VST Live involving such transitions, are impossible with the current behaviour.

Regards, Michael

Edit:
I just noticed that the audio quality in the VST Live screencapture seems to be degrading through the video (compare with the Cubase example video).
Weird - the two screencaptures are made back to back with the same audio files and interface.
It may be related to the screencapturing software/editing - but weird, just the same.

Hi @Congaz !

VL currently is playing you audio file as it is. Regardless of tempo. To warp an audio file requires multiple / different things but its not an obvious thing. I process my audio files in Cubase then exp/imp to VL. And works me like charm. (Last time this morning a song from 120BPM to 122BPM (+rit at end)

I hope I gave you some idea/help with this answer

Then, what is the role of the Tempo track in VCL??? I may be lost here!!!

MIDI, DMX, lyrics, notes are event type (emagine a list of entries) clips. Also metronome is adjusted regarding. So VL does pretty much…

BTW do you know what the theory is to audio stretching? I mean if there is a PCM … sampled-value (explained in eg: 16bit/24bit long word) for each of 44.1k/48k fragments. The sample rate is set at audio devices. So to time warp the code needs to keep to play on set sample-rate but actually can’t slow down or speed up playing “the-sampled-values” of the PCM because that would modify the pitch. And here comes the magic to time-stretch audio, but end of the day it will degrade/modify audio

Thanks, but I realise I am far behind with the theory of tempos and time-stretching. Let us say it is ok for now, though you have not answered my dire t question - what is the role of the tempo track in VSTL?

I definitely did

All above are tempo-adjusted

There’s no audio waring required here.
The audio file is supposed to play “as is”.
Did you see the Cubase example?

Edit:
As mentioned, I could fix the problem by zero-pointing the audio files (hence: no audio warping/musical mode)

Edit 2:
I suspect you didn’t watch any of the screencapture video, as you think I want to change tempo on an audio file.

Hi! Oh sorry. No I was on phone where everything was too tiny to see the details. Will get back to computer and reply soon:)

WOOW, you are right! That is no audio warp, sorry!
And yes… I see… To help this, Created a test file to developers. Hold a sec!

@Spork : do you think you can have a look on this bug?

Thanks!

Hi @Congaz and @fkalmus,

… oh, thank you very much! We could reproduce it and it has been fixed. The fix has been pushed to the next Pre-Release 2.2.37 which will be published this Friday. Please re-try it with that version and let us know about your experience.

See you,
Michael.
