Hey!
First of all, thanks a lot for putting in all the effort into improving VST Live 2! Our band really enjoys playing along to the backing tracks that we created. We love that everything from live chord visualization over automatic VST changes in layers to MIDI CC messages to trigger patch changes in external hardware works like a charm.
However, I would like to report some issues that I have with the automation editing (these issues have been the same in past versions).
For context: I created some audio tracks and then added an automation track. In the inspector of the automation track, I chose one of the mixer faders of an audio track to be the input for the automation track. My goal is to automate the volume of the fader that corresponds to a certain audio track. In the mapping of the automation track, I set the first controlled parameter to be the volume. So far, so good. I can now draw an automation event into the tracks view and start adding automation points inside that event using the editor. But here is where I do have some struggles…
- If I pop out the automation editor with the arrow key to be a standalone window, the 16 parameters won’t stretch inside their container (red circle in the screenshot).
- I cannot seem to resize the bottom area (red line in the screenshot). These to are more or less “just” UI issues.
- If I add an automation point with the “Draw” tool, go back to the select tool and click the automation point with my cursor, the point will just drop it’s value to 0. Why?
- If I use the “Line” function of the automation editor, this results in a number of single points being drawn, like a stair. I expected to get 2 points and a line connecting these points, so I could tilt that line by increasing or decreasing the value of one of the points.
- Last but not least, if I want to automate a volume setting of a fader, I would love to set an absolute value (dB) instead of having to guess what percentage I need to reach a certain volume.
I don’t know if I misinterpreted some of the functionality of the automation editor. But to me, it would be amazing if the automation editor would be a lot more like the one we all know from Cubase. I’m looking forward to your feedback!
