[2.2] Stuck on preload

Hi,

just installed 2.2.

Unfortunately my main project does no longer load, it is always stuck during preload.

VST Live 2 loads a couple of songs and then locks up - even the cancel button does not work, have to make a “hard” stop from the Finder.

I have waited for up to 15 minutes, no progress. There seems to be some activity (5-6% CPU load for VST Live).

The freeze does not always happen at the same song, always different. But even with 6 attempts I did not have a single successful start.

Downgraded to 2.1.36 and things worked again.

Additional minor hint: 2.2 still shows 2.1 in the license agreement:

Thanks,
Christian

Does it start with “New Project”?

Hi, I have the same problem on an M1 Mac. It does start with a new project.

Ok, so, is it only stuck with certain projects, or with all of them?

I only have two projects so far. It is stuck on a project with 7 songs and opens a project with 1 song.

Starts with new project.

Only have one “main” project with my band’s setlist (24 songs), which I rearrange as needed for rehearsals or gigs.

M4 Mac on my side.

Are you connected to the internet when you start the preload? I ask because at one point, when I started the preload from my laptop (the one I use only for live shows), if I wasn’t connected to the internet, the preload would get stuck. I assumed it had to do with some kind of authorization. Then I would connect to the internet, and the preload would work as expected. Then I would disconnect and the error would no longer occur.

As far as I know VL does all it licence checks before you get to the load project window - maybe it’s one of the VST’s trying to authorise.

I think @CliveJ is absolutely right, there must be a VST that asks for auth.

BTW iLok released new driver and Cloud Auth improvement is highlighted. If you have such plugin have a look on that update , etc

Yes, I think the same. But just in case, I got into the habit of connecting my laptop to the internet first, and pre-loading a setlist. Then I disconnect.

I’ve never had that happen. Now I’m worried :face_with_spiral_eyes:

But in that case I would have expected version 2.1.36 to be stuck on preload, too - it’s using the same project with the same plugins.

And the preload always gets stuck in different songs - with a license problem for a specific plugin I would have expected a reproducible behavior.

I have installed and launched VST Live with full internet access available.

A couple of my plugins (EastWest, UA and Strymon) use iLok, however I have all licenses available offline, either as machine activations or on an USB-C iLok key to avoid the need for internet connectivity. Also checked the iLok License Manager, I have the lastest version installed, no updates available (on Mac).

There were updates to most UA plugins yesterday and I think one release note was “improve DAW compatibility” so I decided to do another test:

  • First launched 2.1.36 with my project, everything working, preload works fine
  • Stopped 2.1.36 and installed 2.2
  • Launched 2.2 with the same project, stuck again
  • Tried this three times, always stuck in different songs for preload
  • Downgraded to 2.1.36 - all fine again

So unfortunately this still looks like a 2.2 problem to me.

Upssss! That is bad news…
@ChKK can you try this with a blank project with 1-2songs with 1-1wav files and 1-2 stock plugins/instruments, just for testing?

Perfect logic, something else going on there.
