The bassoon is indeed rather high, but when I click a single note (either g#4 or b4), the playback works. But activating the whole phrase and playing back it leaves the 2 notes soundless. So I looked at the piano role and sax that those 2 notes are drawn as empty rectangles. I am still researching this topic, but have not been successful so far. Therefore I turn to you guys here hoping you can tell me what that means and if that could be the reason why they do not play back?
Just as an info: the composer notated the notes beginning with g#4 in another voice. I switched them to the first upsteam voice again and also added the slue. So maybe those empty rectangles are a left-over of the old voicing structure?
As well he should have. Although treble clef is not unheard of in Bassoon parts, it is rare and generally frowned upon.
BTW, this is not all that high for the Bassoon. The famous solo in Ravel’s G Major Piano Concerto goes to E a fifth higher and West Side Story Symphonic Dances has an F above that (although this was probably Bernstein giving his brother-in-law Manny Zegler a hard time…)
