I have the 2nd & 3rd trumpets condensed in the layout options. However, they’re not being condensed in the score. What am I doing wrong? Here’s my project as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I thought I could figure this out, but your file is quite the rabbit hole to be honest.
Firstly, you added all your players as Section players (it’s unclear to me why). Section players are by default excluded from condensing, you have to tell Dorico to do so in Layout options. Second, you have two players called “2nd & 3rd Trumpet” (again I can’t understand why, it’s not needed and that makes it harder to keep track of the individual players) but only one of them was added to the custom condensing group you created in Layout options:

…should allow section players to condense. It works for me when I do this in a new project:
But for some reason, doing this in your project (and adding a custom condensing group that contains both players) still won’t get these players to condense. I don’t know why, others might be able to sleuth that out. If you want to keep this file as is and have those players condense, you could add a manual Condensing change to bar 1 in which you force them to condense (after having created a custom condensing group in Layout options that contains them both).
Honestly though, and I mean this with the best of intentions, the file looks like you might want to take a step back and dive deeper into the fundamentals of Dorico, and then start over. The way you’ve set up your players is pretty convoluted and will probably cause a lot of trouble later on (demonstrated by this very issue). Feel free to ignore this of course, but you’re not getting the most out of Dorico if you’re setting up your projects like this. E.g. one of the benefits of Dorico’s condensing feature is that you don’t have to manually create players called “2nd & 3rd xxx”. You also don’t generally need section players unless you want to e.g. use the divisi feature. Especially if you want others to use your files as a template (I don’t know if that’s the case with this project but I’ve seen your other posts) you’ll need a thorough understanding of why Dorico does what it does and how your setup is affecting that. Again, I don’t mean this in a negative way, and feel free to ignore.

I played around with that, but I think I had already entered notes in the second 2nd&3rd trumpet part when I tried that. This only works when that second (third?) player is indeed inactive. As soon as you enter notes, they won’t automatically condense anymore:
(I used the Duplicate to Staff Below command so I know the content of both staves is absolutely identical).
Ouch, I did not try that! I can confirm that it happens here as well.
Well, I really have no idea what is the problem here. Resetting everything to factory defaults does not help either, so it is probably like you say in your first post – best to step back and start over. Unless someone else can find what’s wrong.
I ended up removing all of the instruments and just adding a “single player” instead of a “section player.” That’s fixed the issue.
