I hope I’m missing some setting but it appears there needs to be an adjustment with seconds in “Notes of any duration” and that they should show as my screenshot. Am I missing a setting? I’ve also attached what “Notes of the same duration” looks like and that’s not acceptable. What am I missing? Especially, since I cannot manually move dots and I need the setting for the entire piece and not just one measure? Do we need a 4th option and the 1st option be changed to the back of the line?
I’m sorry but the results you screenshotted seem to match the settings you’ve selected.
You have notes with different durations. The first setting will make them tighter together; the second one won’t, and will put one voice next to the other.
What is the problem with this? Sorry if I’m mistaken.
I do not want the sharing of dots of the same durations. As you can see, those 2nds with ledger lines do not perform the same way in either case, though the images say they do. Is there a different setting to make this work properly? I want the top screenshot. Thanks. Steve
Your screenshots match the setting though?
The dotted crotchet/dotted minim example in the Engraving Options dialog displays the same pitch with different durations. Your project example is displaying different pitches and different duration.
Sorry, I don’t think I’m explaining myself correctly. I want the result of my staff in screenshot 1 when it comes to 2nds but do not want the results of staff in screenshot 2. Though, I want the results of Dorico options 2 when it comes to unison notes but not the results of Dorico options 1, sharing dots of differing values. There doesn’t seem a way to make that happen and I don’t have the ability to adjust dots. It would be better to have a 4th option. I’m a little brain fried so I hope this makes more sense.
I think I understand now. You want:
2nds with different durations in the same column
but
Unisons with different durations in separate columns
Correct! I think it may have to do with ledge lines. Do you know an option that I’m missing?
I don’t think so, I just recreated your screenshot but moved everything to inside the staff, with the same result(s).
Hi @sfiskum, I am sure I misinterpret your question, but if the problem is the dot for unisons, could this Option help?
Thanks Christian. No, combining dots is OK, it’s the stem and dot alignments. Sorry if I wasn’t clear but thanks for your response…ooo hold on, let me check!
Bummer! No, that doesn’t work. Thanks again. I don’t want the dots to jump with unison notes but different durations. They need to offset stems with dots in the proper place. (proper is a subjective term obviously) As seen in “Notes of the same duration.” I know a lot of publishers that do this.
@sfiskum
What about this?:
Nice one!
Great! Hard to image I have to do this but it is a solution. This scenario comes up a lot. Thanks much.
