I have been following the quick start and the PDF instructions to set up a zoom r16 in Cubase le 8. It will let me set the ASIO driver to the R16 in the device set up . But when I delete the preset buses in the VST input/output, and add a new bus the audio bus says not connected . Click on that it list the R16 but will not change from Not connected. I have been trying to find a support number for both Cubase and Zoom. Guess they do not support the products. Just the crappy instructions.

I’m sorry, this is a Zoom issue. The driver is pretty unstable. If there is no way around, use the ASIO4ALL (you are on Windows, rigt?), pinstead of Zoom driver, lease.
