I see this problem reported in Cubase, but not Cubasis.
Randomly, one track will transpose with no input from me. If I powerdown the ipad and restart everything, the intended pitch is restored. It’s a bit frustrating. I cannot re-create it. There seems to be no pattern.
I’m not a ‘power user’ - so it’s only note data, the occaisional filter automation and diddling about with AUs.
Do you switch between using your iPad or iPhone on its own and BT phones or an external device? If possible, please provide us with the exact steps leading to the issue.
As I said, I cannot detect a pattern. I used to be a network and server support engineer, so I feel that I would be able to see a pattern if there was one. I will pay more attention, but I only use it lightly, creating a chord loop, maybe adding some beats in from the supplied loops, then putting a baseline in perhaps.
I have a test project that I did when I first bought iconic sketch, and one of the violin parts started playing out of tune. Happy to send the file if it helps.
Unfortunately we are unaware about issues in that area.
Therefore, it would be of great help if you’re able to find the exact steps to reproduce the problem, which would allow our engineering further evaluating the topic.
I have two master keyboard (Impact LX61 for the width, and a Hydrasynth standard for the after pressure). It doesn’t matter which keyboard I use and I have disconnected the Impact to rule it out. The problem still occurs when I am using one keyboard.
From a freshly booted iPad, I load Cubasis up and select a new project with just Acoustic Piano and click track.
In a recording, I can put the Left locator in many positions. I have changed the tempo from 88 - 140+ After an unpredictable time, Cubasis transposes the notes down 2 semitones as I am recording them. When I stop the recording, the whole track is now transposed.
If I duplicate the track, the normal pitch is restored for a while, but even when just playing back a simple arpeggiated loop, it transposes down 2 ST again. I can duplicate the track whilst it is playing, mute the source track and keep playing the arpeggio, but after an unpredictable time, the pitch drops again.
I thought this was limited to Microsonic or AU instruments, but it happens to external midi gear as well. My D550 also changes patch to 11 for no reason when the pitch changes.
Is there a diagnostic file I can send, or perhaps the project media?
I hope that my description helps some wonderfully intelligent person in the team to find the problem.
Thank you all for your time, and please advise if there’s any more detail you need. I won’t be able to test anything for a couple of weeks, as I am very busy this month.
Hi JasonP,
This is a idea plucked out of thin air, but next time you notice a track transpose, just touch the pitch bend wheel and notice if the transpose has corrected itself, there are times I have created midi pitch bend events, changed my mind and deleted them BUT…… failed to delete just one “+” which happened to be a two semitone bend.
As I said, it’s just a quick thought.
Mike
Below please find some more feedback from our engineering:
On every MIDI track except track 1, there is one pitch-bend event shortly after bar 9 with the minimum value, which usually corresponds to -2 semitones. There are also program change and CC1 Modulation events, as you can see in the screenshot.
Please try the following:
Double tap the MIDI clip on track 2 to open the editor
Tap “Velocity” in the bottom left corner to open the parameter area
Tap "Pitch bend”
Double tap into an empty area to select all points (which then turn white)
Tap Erase
Repeat steps 3-5 for Program Change and CC 1
Repeat all steps for tracks 3-6, or delete those MIDI clips and copy them again from track 2.
I’m completely confused as to how that got recorded - perhaps there’s a problem with my master keyboard - I would never use the pitch wheel on a piano patch.
We can safely say that this is not a problem with Cubasis, and I am very grateful for everyone’s time.
Hi JasonP,
Here is another suggestion that could help determine the source of the rogue PB events. If you download a free app called MIDI Wrench, launch it and leave it running in the background every time you intend using either of your two keyboards with Cubasis, this app will display all incoming MIDI data going into Cubasis, if you find PB data being recorded with your session, you can check the MIDI Wrench screen and it will display every event. Just to test this theory, with everything launched and one keyboard connected, open Midi Wrench and start playing your keyboard, try operating the pitch bend to get an idea what you will be looking for, if you find pitch bend data without you operating the wheel, then your problem is a noisy pitch bend controller that is intermittently sending out unwanted data.
Good luck.
Mike
