3rd party plugin prevents projects from opening!

Hi everyone! longtime cubase user here - 20 plus years! I know sometimes 3rd party plugins can cause issues opening projects but here is the weird twist: I have been using the particular plugin in question for YEARS!! No issues until recently. The plugin is a free loudness meter from Sonalkis - there is a mono and stereo version - I have both - all of a sudden no projects would open - took me a while to find what was causing this - I removed the Sonalkis stereo plugin and now everything opens - but the weirder part - the mono version of the exact same plugin still works fine! Neither my Mac, nor cubase, nor the sonalkis plugin was updated in any way - any ideas?? What can cause this behavior?

Hi,

If the plug-in is in the project, does Cubase freeze while opening the project, or does it crash?

If it crashes, could you provide the *.ips file, please?

  • Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).

It is rather rare, but not impossible, that even though Cubase or the plugin aren’t updated, something else in your OS has changed (like an update or something else) that causes an issue. There have also been occurrences of plugins crashing because of some other plugins in the project.

Bit weird though that the mono version continues to work though…

Have you tried updating the Sonalksis plugin, if there is an update available?

This is why we need plugin sandboxing…by either: developer, or type or whatever. Keeps problematic or conflicting plugins from fighting each other or can at least tell us better whats going on.
