4q:5e tuplet question

I would like to enter a tuplet that is 4 quarter notes in the time of 5 eighth notes. How do I do this?

It is an 8:5e tuplet.

For the record, Dorico will only take into account the specific rhythmic value given in the second part of the division. (Unlike Finale, IIRC)

I’ll just add that you might need to use Force Duration (press the letter O) before entering your four quarter notes in the tuplet.

Thank you all so much for the answers. The 8:5e does create the proper rhythmic subdivisions, but I would like to have the number 4 appear in the tuplet rather than 8.

Select the tuplet (not the notes, just the tuplet part), and in the bottom Properties panel, tick “Use contracting ratio”.

Amazing. Thank you!

Further adventures with tuplets. I would sure like to know how to create the tuplet at the top of this page from the Elaine Gould book.

There could be a better solution, but I would do a 8:5e, and, inside, a 2:2h.

Then I hide the 8:5
