Hey guys, I am in the process of buying a 5960X build in the next two weeks. I was planning to buy it from a pro builder, but the pro builder does not sell the DAW overclocked, because they say that the life span of the CPU gets lowered by overclocking.
How do you guys think about it? Is overclocking not recommended? And if so, is it even worth it to get a 5960x if it is not overclocked? Thanks
I am running the 5960 at 4.5 Ghz with no issues using Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666 DDR 4 on an Asus X99 Deluxe mobo. I am using a Noctua NH-D14 cooler which keeps things at around 50c so no thermal issues at all. I have always overclocked and upgrade well before the CPU gives out so I do not agree with the arguments against overclocking. These days the BIOS is so good at saving you from yourself its not the threat it used to be.
