Dorico Pro 6. In my flow I need the 6/2 meter displayed as ‘3’. What’s the most efficient way of handling this?
I can set the meter to 6/2 and then use the ‘denominator style’ option with the symbol ‘3’, but this of course actually gives me the symbol ‘6’.
I can set the meter to 3/1, use the same option, and then I get the correct symbol. But I also get the wrong note groupings and strong beat divisions, so I will be forced to use Force Duration throughout. I’m kinda OK with this, but maybe I’m overlooking some efficient option?
Hi @Elwro, you can put the 3/1 at the first bar (and use force duration only for that barEdit: see @charles_piano suggestion below), and at the second bar put an hidden 6/2, to accomplish the needed groupings for the rest of the flow..
Thank you very much, guys. And specifically @charles_piano : It turns out the metric structure is more complicated later on and so I will be hiding the time signatures often. Your ‘3/2,6’ solution is not only efficient early on, but – since I had no idea something like this could be done – it also allows me to display ‘C’ for a 4/1 measure using ‘4/4,8’ and setting the ‘common’ option.
Indeed, it’s very handy that the pickup-bar-syntax works not only for shortening bars, but also for lengthening them!
Very useful for polymetric sections, or as in your case, for “fake” Time Signatures.
