6.53 Really Unstable > ZPlane problem

Since updating to C6.53 (both 32 & 64 bit under Windows 7 64 bit) I’ve found it to be really really unstable - crashing out of the blue with a “Cubase has stopped working” box.
After analysing the Cubase crash dmp files with WinDbg I managed to ascertain that the fault lies with “zplanelibs.dll” - responsible for elastic audio etc:

I’ve never had any problems with Cubase before - but right now its just unusable for me.
Can I revert to an earlier version of zplanelibs.dll - maybe from 6.51 - as a temporary work around?
Please help!

Scrap that - seems like exactly the same zplane versions in 6.51 and 6.53 - which is weird as 6.51 was rock solid for me. I guess I’ll just roll-back until this gets resolved.

Hi Graham,

please get in contact with the support team:

info@steinberg.de

Please add a step-by-step guide and the the Cubase Project.
The error message just shows the last process before the crash and maybe it does not point directly to the causing process.

Best regards,

Marcus

Thanks for the reply Marcus - yep I’ll get in touch with support.
Fwiw I’ve narrowed it down further and it is definitely zplane’s elastic audio routines which are crashing Cubase 6.53 here - I’ve got a particular project here now which 100% always crashes at exactly the same spot, just as its about to play an audio file which has been z-plane stretched. This is a test project that’s merely streaming raw audio without using any VST plugins, just some z-plane strectches, and with all VST plugins removed from their install folders, so none are iniated on startup. It crashes both 32bit and 64bit C6.53 at exactly the same spot100% of the time. If I go in and disable the stretching on those parts then the project plays fine with no issues.
I’ll send this project to support.

Im not sure about that zplane. Mac version of 6.5.3 is also more unstable than 6.5.0.

Yes, it is…
For me it crashes a lot on launch…

6.5.1 was extremely stable for me but am having lots of crashes now. Cant get to the root of a trigger but its definitely less stable for my Windows 7 Installation.

Can someone point me to the way to roll back versions?

Go to your Windows add/remove programs, tick the show updates option and uninstall the last update.
