8 beats suddenly in a 4/4 bar

I recently went through a series of meter changes that I then deleted, and none of them had 8 quarters to a bar, but now I’m finding a bar that has 8 beats in it although it’s a 4/4 bar.

I deleted the bar, and all that does is slide everything on the right side of it over to the left, and now what was once two bars is all in one bar.

Are there any signposts there? Can you share a part of the file that demonstrates the issue?

One can use SHIFT+B to add a bar line back where it belongs.

I’m with Aaron here: you shall work with voice colours and signposts visibility ON!!! (voice colors do not matter here, of course)

Thanks. Why do I need to do have those things on?

You don’t have to, but if you have them off you are hiding information that can be useful in diagnosing issues – invisible things which affect the way the music displays. You can find many questions on the forum from people asking, “Why won’t Dorico put this measure on the previous system?”, to which the answer is, “Because you’ve got a manual system break there which you couldn’t see because you’ve got signposts hidden.”

(I don’t generally do complicated things with voices, so I usually have voice colors off, but I always have signposts on.)

In your case, there may or may not have been a signpost there that would indicate what the issue was.

Thanks. I’ve turned them on now.
