Is it possible to add “opt.” or any other text to 8va lines?
If not: why? and is there a workaround?
(a regular text would be tedious to engrave)

What about creating a custom horizontal line with the same line body as the ottava, the 8va glyph as start cap and the text you want as annotation?
Sure, you would need a different line for each text you want, in which case a regular text may be your (less worse) option.
I can’t recall but is there a setting in Properties to add any kind of text?
