Hi I’m a Dorcio Elements user. I’ve been loving the software and have worked on loads of projects with it. I don’t understand why simple features are stuck behind a $376 paywall. I’m a student and I’m trying to make cues and I don’t understand why I have to waste my time messing with voicings and rests and staff text just to do the same thing. There’s other features too that should be included and I shouldn’t feel like as a user that I can’t start a project because of something stupid like how you can’t make cover pages in Dorcio Elements. It’s just not right.
Different people will always have contrasting opinions on what features should or shouldn’t be included with Elements.
The developers need to draw the line somewhere but I’m sure that they will appreciate your post and take your suggestions into consideration.
I have done cues when I am on the road with my iPad. The iPad version is like the desktop Elements version. It takes some extra care to do cues manually, but it is doable.
I see it as a welcome bonus feature for the Dorico Pro version to be able to do this semiautomatically.
If you save up a bit of money every month and wait for the promotion sales, you will be able to get the educational upgrade at a better price.
A lot of people make pages for title, notes, index, etc in a DTP app, and then combine PDFs from both apps together. I do this regularly, even though I have Pro.
By its very nature, Elements is always going to be missing something that someone wants. But as DanielMuzMurray says, the developers listen to all user feedback, and may add more features.
How have you worked around this in Elements? For some reason my notes and rests are not cooperating in making cues manually, however I’m probably missing something crucial.
I work in Galley Mode.
I use a duplicated score/flow.
As an example, I want to give the Viola part a cue from the 1st Violins from bar 88-89:
I select those 2 bars from the 1st Violins,
Filter by Notes and Chords (optional),
Copy,
Select the rest in bar 88 of the Viola system,
Paste Special: Paste into Downstem voice 1,
While still selected go to the bottom Property Panel and: Scale->Cue size,
Finally I add system text “Vln. 1” and also scale it to Cue size.
In short: 3 step: Copy, Paste Special, Scale
