A continuous diminuendo with dynamics in individual parts?

I’ve notated a diminuendo (with a dotted line) spanning more than 6 measures in a string section, and now I need to add a measure-by-measure crescendo-diminuendo with brackets for first and second violins. How can I notate both? Right now, I can only do one or the other… Thanks!

A crescendo hairpin over two crotches should be added to the first and second violins, followed by a diminuendo hairpin over two crotches. However, as soon as I enter that, the 6-bar diminuendo with the dotted line disappears.

Hier sollte in den Violinen 1 und 2 eine Crescendo-Gabel über zwei Viertel dazu, der dann eine Diminuendo-Gabel über zwei Viertel folgen soll. Sobald ich die aber eintrage, verschwindet das 6-taktige Diminuendo mit Strichellinie.

You could try to enter the hairpins with Alt+Enter instead of just Enter.

Looks good in your video, thanks - I tried it (using Mac): the dim. is not overlapping as in your video but still disapears.

I should have specified the Mac command in my post, sorry! Generally speaking, almost all Dorico keycommands are the same on Mac and Windows.

The only difference is that Ctrl (Windows) corresponds to Cmd (Mac), and Alt (Windows) corresponds to Opt (Mac).

Sorry - next problem: there should be (it’s an arrangement) a fz in the middle of the hairpins. I tried to enter this with the same method: the dim. disapears - but it still works without fz.

Just to make sure, you mean it was working with only hairpins in the popover, but not with hairpins + sf (and Opt+Enter)?

One question: do you have the latest version of Dorico (6.2.30)? There have been some improvements, in the last updates, about dynamics entry.

I’ve just realised by accident that this seems to be related to the Academico font (Dorico’s default text font), oddly enough. It worked on my system because I was using a different font, but when I switch back to Academico, I get the same result as you.

And curiously, when you place the dynamic above the staff, the extension reappears. And if I change the Dynamic Text Font to anything else, it works…

So, if you don’t want to change the font, you should maybe create a playing technique fz and apply it where needed.

One might assume that the default text font is approved without those bugs. I will find a solution for this bars. Dorico will read this or should I inform them about our exchange? Thanks for your time and your support!
