A Few Questions About the Score Editor

Hey everyone, I have a few issues in the Score Editor that I can’t seem to solve, and I’d really appreciate your hel

  1. How can I choose bar numbers according to my preference? For example, how can I set which bars get numbered and what the number should be?
  2. I’m having trouble with positioning elements in the editor, like the “D.C.” symbol, which only appears above the staff, but I need it below. How can I change its position? It seems like something is locked, but I’m not sure how to unlock it.
  3. On the same note – symbols, like the coda – I can’t control its size, and it’s too small. How can I enlarg
  4. Is there a way to add a frame around text?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Does anyone know how to help me?

Hi Elish,

with the current Score Editor in Cubase 14, you will not be able to achieve what you are asking for. I would encourage you to explore exporting this into Dorico, and do the engraving fine tuning work there.

We do intend to bring some more flexilibity to the Cubase Score Editor in a future patch release, particularly for influencing the display of bar numbers (point 1). We are also considering improvements for controlling the size and fonts for symbols (point 3), as well as providing a way to add borders to text elements (point 4).

I see, that’s really unfortunate. These are such small but essential features, especially for those who just want to export simple things like lead sheets. It’s a shame to have to switch to another program just for these finishing touches.

Do you know if this is something that might be added soon? I’m teaching a lot of students, and I told them about this feature in Cubase 14—they were really excited! I’d like to create a tutorial for them on this topic.

Lead Sheets are certainly an important use case we are targetting. As I mentioned earlier, we are planning to improve this, but I can’t make any more specific promises than that. We try to put some of these things into upcoming patch releases as part of the Cubase 14 lifecycle. Your specific examples do help to prioritize.

Hi @StefanFuhrmann,

Creating lead sheets is also my main use. Since you mention it here, I’ll list some more flexible editing options. I hope it’s ok:

  1. Page completely without titles and other texts to save space.
  2. In a multistaves line, a flexible setting per line as to which staves (tracks) should be visible or not, e.g. using a hide function.
  3. Flexible setting of chord symbols with bass note with adjustable enharmonic shift (this is sometimes musically independent of the harmony of the bar). Also independent of the chord track, please.
  4. Manual display/insertion of a tempo indication, also independent of the tempo track.
  5. Of course, different font settings for different text elements.
  6. Real Book Mode.

Musical text is to a certain extent independent of the real MIDI notes.

best regards
