I like to start not a discussion on A.I. (machine learning) but collect ideas on where it could improve working with Cubase/Nuendo -feel free to join:
-A.I. could improve the LOGIC EDITOR
f.e. searching special combinations for events or namings, which are hard to program right now with L.E.
-improve automation in Export. Sometimes I still mute some stuff to export. Machine learning could take over this part.
-create preconfigured project setup by f.e. “create a Bossa Nova setup”
It could suggest an instrument setup and configure everything like you used to set up. Routing, FX tracks, Colouring. All this could be learned from older projects and cloud-info on arrangements.
basically everything that needs some “thinking” f.e.:
rename all VST instruments, which are not part of the template project “MyTemplate.cpr” to “Current_Intrument_Name**_[add-on Scene_xyz]**”
and colour them blue.
if spaces between events are detected, make them all common to 10 bars.
re-save my project by deleting all empty instruments. Ignore complete groups (by it’s root) that are in the signal flow of a used instrument.
At times I feel there is a misunderstanding of what AI is and the current status of it.
Some of the requests seem to be doable with algorithmic solutions, not requiring an AI.
Since creating and training an AI is no small feat in any way, we will not see a dedicated Cubase AI or DAW AI for the forseeable future (or, well, Apple…?? you never know).
For me the way to go for Cubase would be to radically make everything accessible to scripting within Cubase and then use an AI, that is good to help with creating code, to get the necessary scripts done.
Basically use scripts for administrative work as well as to “add” functionality.
I think Reaper could be on the way towards this, even though the original intention behind the scripting stuff was to get their community to do a lot of their work for them for free.
