This happened while I was trying to move the Universal Audio API channel strip in the insert of a track up one during playback. Now if you don’t do it correctly and exactly, it just removes the plugin. This is the result of that. I’ve had this happen to me in the past with Cubase 14, but never thought of recording it while it happened. So I never reported it; however, I now have a recording of it.
Removing the plugin while trying to move it is not a feature; it’s a problem. I get the idea: grabbing an insert and moving it away removes the insert; however, it causes this issue. I don’t see this as a feature, more than I see it as irritating while trying to mix. Clicking the plugin and removing it from the drop-down menu is plenty. We don’t need anything else.
Here is a link to the video. The file was too big to upload here. I have my default settings for video recording set very high, which is of course unnecessary for this, but I didn’t change it before recording this. So I uploaded it to Google Drive.
You can call anything a bug including the kitchen sink. I can only counsel that for Steinberg this is not a bug but the case of a user disagreeing with a current feature design and therefore a feature request.
Thus you should add the tag “feature-request” and change the topic title accordingly.
If Cubase reacts this way to a “feature” then it’s a bug. I couldn’t stop playback, I couldn’t start task manager to end task. My system was completely hijacked by this. That’s a “feature”? If what you just saw with your own eyes isn’t a bug, then what do you define as bug?
Define the term “feature” in this context.
Define the term “bug” in this context.
Then tell me which one is closer to defining losing control of the DAW and the computer itself.
Probably my limited english, but I didn’t get the ‘up one’ part and I have to say that your video doesn’t help much. Did you attempt to move the UA API from a track insert to another track one or change its slot position in the same track ?
On my end, attempting to do both while playing back work without issue, having used both Steinberg bundled ‘MonoToStereo’ and Softube ‘DirtyTape’ plug-ins. So, rather than Cubase, I would suspect the UA one, in this case…
So your video has nothing to do with the text that you wrote?
In your text you focus on plugins being removable too easily… and your video is about your computer stalling?
I am confused.
I’m well aware of that, I also never said I was using Cubase 14 anywhere in my post, so I don’t where your answer comes from. This reply was not helpful at all. Thanks.
The video has EVERYTHING to do with my text. I was moving a plugin up on insert, I apparently did not move it exactly and accurately enough for Cubase to the next insert so Cubase removed it entirely and what happened next was I lost complete control over Cubase (in the video). The text and the video are blatantly and obviously 100% connected. I’m not aware of any other way that I can simplify this for you.
Yes I attempted to move the plugin up one insert slot. I don’t believe this to be a UA issue at all. This has happened to be quite a few times in the past, different system build.
Regardless, Cubase is not handling it well as you can see in the video, I lost complete control of my system.
Guys, I’m not here looking for help on this. All that I’m attempting to do is report a bug. That’s what we are supposed to do when we experience one. That’s it. I won’t be responding to replies or comments now, because they won’t fix anything and are therefore irrelevant to bug reporting. If someone from Steinberg replies and needs more information, I’m more than happy to give them more information, whatever they need to help them pinpoint the issue. They can email me, contact me by phone, whatever they need to do, I’m willing to help on any level and in any way. Thank you.
Yes, any Cubase message box (see caption that reads “Cubase Pro”) should not keep popping up like that. Could be you have like 20 automation items and Cubase messages you for each one that you might lose undo data?
btw: Hi. I’m just browsing issues before buying Cubase. Potential customer (me) on your side.
At the end, I was able to somehow open Task Manager, but I couldn’t end tasks because the Cubase messages kept popping up, not allowing me to do anything in Task Manager. I forgot I was able to open Task Manager using ctrl/Alt/Delete, but that was as far as I could go with Task Manager; I couldn’t do anything with it. There were over 300 instances popping up under Cubase in Task Manager and would have just kept piling up if I had manually restarted my system. I’m looking for any help with this issue. I’m just reporting a bug, a really bad one actually.
I wasn’t aware of that, nor did I even know you could tag it in that way. I don’t know why it was tagged that way because I didn’t add the tag, nor know that I could. Maybe the last time I posted in here it was about Cubase 14 so it used that by default? I really have no idea but it has done is make everything more confusing unfortunately for everyone, including myself.
I just went back and fixed it. I don’t know how that tag got in there, that makes no sense to me at all. I rarely come here because I rarely have issues. I only come here to report bugs. I try to stay forums and social media in general, because people in general create unnecessary stress for me.
It continued to pop from what I could tell 1 every half a second. That’s not due to automation at all. I don’t have nearly that much automation going on. This is a fluke incident that happens now and then. I haven’t really any problems with Cubase over all. The only other small bug I’ve noticed is that when you link channels and specify that you want the send to be linked as well they don’t link. This is brand new computer build and fresh install of Cubase. This also happened with my last computer, same exact thing. So it’s a Cubase bug.
I run Nuendo but I’ve moved inserts while playing back and the worst that happens to me if I don’t get the right area is the whole structure just moves down creating an empty spot at the top!
