A mess in Cubase11, help! Ineed somebody, help!

Today, when I opened the Cubase11 elements session like any other day, I found that,
only plays audio when the loop mode is activated, if I remove it, nothing plays.
On the other hand, the playback bar is in one place, but what it sounds corresponds to another part of the track, also the Groveagent drums sound totally out of place.

Another curious part of this mess is that, if I export a Wav file with some selected tracks, for example with the Grooveagent drums, it exports it correctly!!!.

I uninstalled cubase11 and reinstalled it, but everything is still the same.
I need help, does anyone know what can be happening, and how to fix it?

Thank you very much,

Noé

What happens if you start C11 in Safe Mode with user preferences disabled, and check the box to ignore 3rd party presets?

Thank you very much for your answer.
I can’t get C11 to open in safe mode.
when I start Cubase, I hit Ctrl-Shift-Alt,
but it doesn’t take me to start in safe mode, but to, opening projects or new projects, but nothing where I can adjust user preferences or presets.

Once you click on the C11 icon, immediatel hold down ctr+sft+alt, and keep holding it down for several seconds.

You should see the C11 splash screen start indicating C11 is starting normal, but within 5-10 seconds, you shound see a Safe Mode window appear with these options to check.

Then click ok, and C11 will continue to open…but in Safe Mode.

Maybe you didnt hold these down long enough?

If you cant get Safe Mode to start, and C11 opens, please show a screen shot of your entire Project Page.

I hold down Ctrl-Shift-Alt for several seconds and it takes me directly to this window (open projects):

Do you meant something like that ?

(a screen shot of your entire Project Page)

Yes, thanks for the reply.

Hopefully someone can read that. English only here.

Just to confirm; immediately after starting cubase you pressed ctr+alt+sft and held it until you got that dialog box?

Exactly, that’s what happens.

Is a dialogue box that takes you to the options of opening a project, or creating a new one, which is basically what it says in the dialogue box.

thanks to you!

This dialog comes up when only Ctrl is pressed at the launch of Cubase.
Not sure how it can appear when you press all three keys Ctrl, Alt, and Shift simultaneously.

Thanks for your answer.

That’s the dialog box I get whether I hit Ctrl alone, or Ctrl+Shift+Alt at the same time. And I hold it down for about ten seconds, and nothing, no dialog box for safe mode appears.

I managed to enter safe mode, disabled third party plugins and preferens disable, but I got the same error as before, nothing has changed.

any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks!

So you got it to open in Safe Mode. While using Safe Mode, the program should behave like it’s the first time you have ever opened Cubase. You choose your interface etc. Everything is set to default.

And, while in Safe Mode, the bad behavior continues just like you described in your initial post? Did you try other Cubase projects to test if they reflect the same bad behavior?

Do you have any other versions of Cubase to test with? I think you could even download a free demo of Cubase 15.

Are you on Windows or Mac and what version? Can you list your systems specs?

When did you last open it?
Do you have any other audio applications on your computer and if so they are all operating correctly?
@Johnny_Moneto I’m not sure where to go from here…

Please try the following step by step:

  1. quit Cubase Elements
  2. press Win + r
  3. In the dialog type %appdata%/steinberg (copy it from here and paste it makes it easier)
  4. look for the folder Cubase Elements 11_64
  5. rename the folder to _Cubase Elements 11_64 (add an underscore in the beginning)
  6. start Cubase Elements

Your user settings are replaced with Cubase factory settings.
Does that fix the issue?

If not you can revert the above by repeating steps 1-4,
then you delete the folder Cubase Elements 11_64
and rename the folder _Cubase Elements 11_64 back to Cubase Elements 11_64

“And, while you are in safe mode, does the malfunction continue as you described in your initial post?”
-Yes
”Have you tried other Cubase projects to see if they have the same malfunction?
Yes, right from the start, it happens in every project I open.
Do you have another version of Cubase that you can test with? I think you could even download a free demo of Cubase 15.”
-I don’t have another version. I had thought the same as you say, try with the C15 demo, but what good would it do? if everything goes well in C15, I rule out that it’s a problem with other drivers or the computer, right, I’d have to switch to C15.

I have Windows 10 pro

“When was the last time you opened it?”
-I open projects weekly, so two days ago…
”Do you have other audio applications on your computer?”
-No

Thank you very much for everything

I have followed all these steps and I can say that they have worked. All very clearly explained.

In step 6, when I opened Cubase again, it froze and I had to force the program to close. I opened it again and had another little problem, but the next time it opened Cubase properly and I was able to open a project, and everything sounded perfect.

Thank you very much for your help.
Eternally grateful,

If Safe Mode doesn’t work, then @Johnny_Moneto is the next step…or you can call it Trashing Preferences. There are tutorials explaining it. Basically, everything inside the Cubase folder as he explained gets deleted. Then upon a re-start, it’s like starting Cubase for the first time.
