i did my own poking around and you can now make lowercase for minor and upper case for major – even with the same root – in the same score.
just posting here to provide the procedure for others, should you come across the same issue.
you make the “Chord Symbol” in “Library | Chord Symbols…” by entering a chord symbol and pressing +, then you establish how Dorico will “style” that chord symbol.
