This great idea was requested many years ago I see, and was closed because they said Markers have this capability. But they don’t.
A Note Track would be insanely useful every day, to be able to put notes wherever I need to on the timeline, with as many words as I want, in a box of adjustable height (along with filling the height of the track itself depending on the size of the note) and individually-adjustable width.
Cycle Markers are in such a tiny font because they are so tiny vertically (which is a significant issue on its own), and they’re only one line, which makes them useless for detailed notes you need to read in one place.
A Note Track would be scaleable, and with typed notes in a box as wide or as tall as you need them (with overall height adjustable in the Note Track header, as with any kind of track). I bet this would be highly useful for a big amount of users.
Of course! Every marker should be able to have a note attached to it!
There should be event markers too!!! This has also been requested long ago, but SB has not implemented it.
There are just so many little ideas in the forums that would make Cubase/Nuendo easier to work with but the developers just focus on a couple of marquee features for each annual update release.
Thanks for the suggestion. It’s a paid workaround and is a great plugin, but it’s not in the actual Nuendo timeline. Being in a separate plugin window is not nearly as easy, instant and useful as having these notes directly in the timeline. It will have to do, unfortunately, for now.
The best solution is, as ltf3 said, to either have notes be attachable to Markers, or to simply have Marker Cycle tracks have their text be larger than the current microscopic size, and to have multiple lines of text available. It would be so incredibly useful every day here to have.
There’s no ideal method to show large text in a neat box. One method which gets close is as follows:
activate ‘Auto Select Events Under Cursor’ in Preferences
select the Markers track and open the Markers editor (ADR window)
set the markers window to always on top
select Dialogue in the Marker Editor section of the window and set the size to 48 (for example)
select each marker in turn and for each marker enter the required text
start playback and the dialogue text will follow each marker as it is selected
What would have been extremely useful would be the ability to float that dialogue box in a separate window! Maybe Steinberg would consider this as a feature request.
Thank you so much, that’s indeed as close as you can get.
Separate notes in the actual timeline that are either their own track type or attached to Cycle Markers, or Cycle Markers with multiple lines and an easily readable font size, would be what I need.
As a workaround I think the plugin mentioned above (very expensive for what it does) would be better for me than the method you kindly outlined, since it doesn’t take up nearly as much space. The drag about it is that it’s not attached to Cycle Markers, and is one extra step.
The other option would be to simply show the dialogue text as an overlay in the Video Player. This would take up less screen space but the text would probably not be as large as you’d like (dependent upon the Video Player window size).
A dedicated Note Track would of course be the better option and it’s a pity Steinberg have never implemented this or have not provided the option to show markers with different sized text.
