A title page for four-hand piano duet

The handbell guy branching out a bit… I’m working on a four-hand piano duet. I haven’t yet tried to put the lower part on the left page and the upper part on the right page.

I got as far as realizing the first page, which is a right page, can’t have music on it, so it must be a title page. But I found I was not allowed to delete a music frame and no matter how small I made it Dorico still put the first staff on that page.

I read a bit on how to make a title page, but the manual pages I read seemed to discuss how to make a new page template, not how to make a specifically title page. I began working with an empty page, but don’t see how that becomes a first page.

I saw a couple previous forum questions on title pages. They were from 2016 and 2019 so I’m not sure they are still applicable.

I’m using Dorico 5.

What to do?

You need to make your own “Title Page” page template that you can insert on page 1 of your layout using a Page Template Change.

After this, the “First” page template (with the music frame) will follow.

Does this help at all?

The answer worked – I got what I need. However, I see a title page is only necessary because I can’t delete the music frame in the first page. It seems I can’t delete a music frame but I can fail to add one.

You can delete music frames, absolutely.

What do you actually want to end up with? If you just want the first page of music to be a left-hand page, change the initial page number to be number 2.

Whether you want the real “first” page to have a title page design if you ultimately print this out as a hard copy, is up to you.
