This should be so simple and I hope I’m missing something. I need a way to copy a part AND keep it at the same point in the timeline. If I use ALT move it copies to wherever you move it to. If I use CTRL move it moves the part to the exact place in the timeline. How do I do both?
So just select and hit ctrl-c. Then do Locator to Selection and hit ctrl-v
grab → press “alt” then press “ctrl”

Press “ctrl”, grab and move (pressing ctrl all time) then press “alt”
That works, but not consistently. You have to press alt DURING the move, weird
You want to avoid the grid-lock, right?
As you say, crtl+alt ist best used after starting to drag.
Or you can always toggle grid-lock on and off by pressing J, then alt-drag and press J again to reactivate it when neccessary.
