It would be nice to be able to explode to visible staffs only. My example is: In a bigband score I would like to explode some chords from alto 2 to tenor 1, tenor 2 and barytone. I’m in Write mode - (page view) and the moment I click on Explode, the notes goes to the hidden instruments in the alto 2 part: Soprano Sax 2 & Flute 2. A clever solution would be that Dorico would ask if I want that or maybe a preference, where the explode command always target the following players and not the alternating instruments.
It sounds like you’re copying music in Alto 2 and then doing Explode right away, with just the Alto 2 staff selected. Is that correct?
Because Explode works by staff, and not by player, it looks like in the absence of additional information it will default to using the next available staves – which in this case are the instrument doubles.
If you explicitly select the destination staves you want (either in Page view or Galley view), then Dorico will do the right thing.

Is this with using the instrument filter?

I wasn’t filtering anything, just selecting the destination staves I want.
With just the flute staff selected, Dorico will use the next available staves in the score, which happen to be hidden in Page view. With explicit staves selected, Dorico will use those.
Interesting. I think when staves are hidden with the filter, it’s like they don’t exist at all. But when alternate instruments are not displayed in Page view, they’re really still there.
I still like your request though.

I was using a Keyboard Maestro macro triggered from my Metagrid, so I never considered that I was supposed to select which staffs I wanted the resulting notes in. Stupid. But anyway, if I’m in page view and I have the following 5 staffs: Alto 1, 2, tenor1, tenor2, baryton I think it would be nice to be able to record the sax chord in Alto 1 and then hit EXPLODE and have the notes ending the right places. As for now, that doesn’t work, because Dorico places the first three notes in (the same player!) Alto1, Soprano1, Flute1!
