So I’m struggling to understand how I should condense this more clearly. Horns 1+2 and 3+4 are a2 each, and it makes sense to me to have the note at the beginning of the page - but it’s appearing on every note! My guess is that this is because it sees the rests and is re-stating it every time after a rest? I thought it would only do this when the condensing/voicing actually changes, which it is not here (until the 3rd bar, where I could understand maybe putting a 3.4. a2 marking at the subito piano). Right now I’m just going into properties and hiding the text, but this seems like it should be a setting I can adjust so it dynamically understands when to show and not show the labels redundantly.
Additionally, on the second stave, it has the label go 5.7.8.6, which is very strange to look at. It’s 5.6 on top and 7.8 on the lower two notes. I have no idea what setting I could use to get the staff label to appear like it does for the first 4, which is correct.

That was a great video, but it didn’t actually resolve my issues. For the Staff Labels, it appears that what I’d like isn’t actually currently possible (Horn 1.2 on top and 3.4 on bottom looks great, and there’s no way to force that to happen for 5.6.7.8 - to get them in order, it’s either going to force them all horizontal (problematically wide) or all vertical (problematically tall). Having the label as stacked pairs is easily the cleanest look, but based on the video, there is no way to force that behavior. If Steinberg are watching, I’d love a feature for designing the stacking manually! (this has 8 horns, even something like 1.2.3.4 on top and 5.6.7.8 on bottom for the label if they all condensed to 1 stave would be great, or 4 vertical pairs, instead of having a long horizontal or long vertical list of 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8!)
Similarly with the a2, it would appear that most likely in this case, the problem is that it’s viewing the rests as “under a stem” and thus NOT counting them for calculating the condensing zone endings even though they’re visually not under any stem, so it seems likely that adding a manual change recalculation on the 2nd 8th of the 3rd bar will clean that up, but this doesn’t explain the same problem where I have it elsewhere when the horns are playing quarter notes with quarter rests in between - those certainly are not rests under a stem.
The bit about how the dynamics work with the linking might massively help clean up my score page in other places though, because I frequently have staggered entrances but synchronized crescendos, and so I end up with many hairpins above and below condensed staves, and getting those all linked (without the staggered entrance dynamics) could improve my clutter problem significantly. Ironically, I’ve found multiple cases where un-condensed parts took up less space than condensed because of all the added information above+below the staff!
