AAF from AVID

Hi. Has anyone found a way to get AAF from AVID into Nuendo with all original metadata and ideally muted clips? Without reconforming. I tried DaVinci, Vordio and it doesn’t work. AAtranslator is only for PC and doesn’t have a trial version. I’m desperate, the basic thing that should work, I understand that Avid is deliberately playing for itself, but unfortunately Steinberg should respond to this and not leave us in the lurch, it’s the very basics that should work. Thank you

Media Composer AAFs are lets just say - challenging and the way they define muted clips could not be more complex if they actually tried to make it difficult.
This is why most converters choke on MC AAFs and especially in relation to muted clips.
DM me and we will get your AAF converted to Nuendo for you

As a workaround and depending on the show:
I sometimes ask the editors to send a second AAF with ALL clips unmuted (one button I guess??) That way you could use the AAF with the missing clips as a stencil on the one with all clips in it and a second time to invert the stencil. We use this trick with DXAssist and is described in more detail here (workflow I mean is described at around 9:30):

this does work in Nuendo the same way when “delete overlaps” is on.

AAF from avid, every day with metadata. Muted clips, nope, not until Avid changes their AAF export. We tell the editors/editing assistants to change mut d clips to reducing clip level to -60

In house we are close to 100%, when working with editors outside without our in house assistants, then it’s more of a hit and miss.

It’s one of the reasons to make sure to always get EDLs, we can always conform them ourselves.
