Ability to add/save multiple pictures to a channel (for tracking session documentation)

I grow weary of writing down lengthy external hardware and instrument settings into the NotePad. (ie. settings used for guitar pedals, amp settings, mic and mic position, compressor settings, etc., etc.) What would be a great time saver is if we could just take a couple pics of the gear with our phone and simply import it into the track — NotePad or Pictures, I don’t care which. Just something I can call up for each channel when I need to look at the tracking info. I believe this would be such a great time-saver for documenting tracking sessions.

Sound off if you agree importing multiple photos per track would be a useful tool for Cubase! :slightly_smiling_face:

(*And of course, please let me know if I am overlooking an obvious solution)

Hi,

there’s a free and very useful vst3 plugin out there which does exactly what you are asking for:

It’s stable, small, and easy to handle.

Enjoy

That sounds cool, but unfortunately when I visit the site, none of the images will load. Regardless, I’ve been burned in the past relying on free plug-ins. I would prefer a built-in Cubase feature which would stand a much better chance of carrying over important data into future updates over the long term.

That’s what I see when I click on the link above. Afterwards, just click download for free.

Maybe use another browser?

I’ve been using Snapshot for years now and it has never failed me.
Having said this, there’s nothing wrong with your feature request and I respect that you want this as a built-in functionality!
However, looking at the number of long-standing requests and their number of votes I would consider using this little tool in the meantime if I were you…

Yeah, I tried both Safari and Firefox, on a MacOS Sequoia. There’s just a question mark where the images/screenshots would be. Plus, there aren’t any system requirements listed on the site. Does this even run on Mac? (UPDATE: I just saw Logic listed as a DAW, so I guess they do support Mac.)

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion. I’m sure it works great for you, but I still would like to see this sort of functionality officially built into Cubase. Again, to ensure the longevity of documentation.

I just put my pictures in the project folder. Not very sophisticated but works for me.

That’s cool for small projects. The issue — which I am currently having — is keeping track of info for large sessions. Lots of tracks where I use a variety of different guitar set-ups and amps.

It’s cool for large projects as well. You just have to label your photos properly.

I’m thinking like a pop-up window for each track. Stay in the DAW and work quick and easy, y’know?

I’d love for Cubase to make the per track notes into a meaningful useable format with both more size and more (basic) formatting options. But I have work to do while that wish makes its way through oblivion. I found a 3rd party option, not a plugin, that works really well. You can purchase an adjustable image of your hardware pieces (pre-amps, compressors, EQs, etc.) by manufacturer. They cost about $4 U.S. a piece with some more or less expensive.

Here’s a pic of what that looks like with my gear and its settings used on a project

I feel like, even if Steinberg ever implements something to help in this way, it won’t be as precise. The knobs move. No need to write/type anything other than the song title. CMD + Tab to toggle between the application and Cubase.

If you’re interested, here’s the website:

That’s pretty cool!

I’m partial to pictures, however, as they can quickly capture lots of random items in the session such as exact mic placement on a speaker, an entire guitar pedal board, etc.

But I have work to do while that wish makes its way through oblivion.

Lol - right?!?

Ah, yes! I feel like the solution I suggested is pretty great… but it can’t do those things (pedals maybe, mic placement nope). I think someone suggested earlier to store pics in the Project folder in macOS where your Project is stored. That’s probably as close as you’ll get… during the oblivion tour

You can still CMD + Tab between Cubase and the Finder window though. So, once you’ve got that open in Finder, it’s pretty quick to toggle back and forth. It would be cool to have a popup window (the way the EQ works in Cubase) to display your pics though. I can see that being a nice/useful feature. Maybe Steinberg will add a Pics folder to projects in the future…

I’d think the easiest solution for Steinberg would be to let us paste pics into the Project & Track Notepads.

I’d be happy with that. The current picture pop-up window looks like a good place to add this functionality.
