In a multi-voice context, I want the duration of a note to be expressed with a single note and a dot, rather than using a tie. How should I achieve this?
I tried changing the Voice column index value, but it didn’t produce the result I wanted.
The Voice Column Index will only adjust the location of the note.
You’d need to enter the note with Force Duration activated. During note entry, press O.

Before using Force Duration, I’d recommend checking in Notation Options > Note Grouping to see if there’s a default option that does this automatically, based on the meters used in your flow.
You can also force the duration of notes after they’ve been input, but you might have to reduce their duration first (so the note can be notated using a single notehead), then extend it again.
