Absolute; Download Assistant, Instrumants and Content locations

I just purchased Absolute 6 and I’m wondering about best practice for managing instruments and libraries.
I’ve used my internal drive for the small number of Steinberg products that I own so far.
I’m going to start with Halion 7. My thoughts were to put Halion itself on my internal drive and put the 30 gig of content on my external that I already use for other sample libraries.

I suppose I will need to choose the “Target folder” in Download Assistant for each instance; Instruments / internal drive. Content / external drive.
Does that sound right?

No, that doesn’t sound right.

Configure the Download Assistant to an external drive so that all downloaded content goes to that drive in general. But that is just a download area and you can keep it for all products, it has no impact on the installation location.

The installation of the content will be in the standard location first, to move it you can open the Library Manager and there you can decide where you want the instruments to be moved to.

Thanks for the response.
After your post I clicked “open folder” in Download Manager for Halion 7 and saw an installer .dmg ready to be launched.
The confusion for me was in Download Manager the buttons say “Install”, not download. So I assumed that the plugin was actually being installed when I hit Install.

To answer my own question; the plugins will indeed be “installed” on our internal drive once we launch the downloaded installer .dmg. The Content is installed into the Target folder.

Your advice about “downloading” everything to the external drive is definitely the way to go. The distinction is that only Content is actually “installed” in the Target folder. The plugins themselves are downloaded as .dmg and must be launched.

So I’ve changed my “Target folder” in Download Manager to my external drive and then manually launching the .dmg files for the plugins. So far just Halion.
Hopefully this means I can make a backup of everything on that drive in case of emergency.
