Accidentals in tied notes

I was taught that if a long note with an accidental was tied over a system break, it is correct to restate the accidental at the beginning of the new system. (Gould, p. 80.) There doesn’t seem to be a way to accomplish this in Dorico, or at least I haven’t been able to find it. Am I wrong?

I don’t think there’s any automation for that, even though the team is probably considering it, since there’s a ghost notation option (accessible only from the jump bar) — but which doesn’t do anything!

You can however achieve it in Engrave Mode: select the notehead, and in the Properties Panel, turn on “Accidental > Show”

If you don’t want it to be reproduced from the score to the part or vice-versa (the system breaks will probably not correspond), set the local properties to “Locally” before forcing the accidental.

Perfect! I still forget about checking the properties panel. Thanks!

So, as I have already pointed in another thread, you can simply enter the note without any tie (or untied with U), then tie it afterward. The accidental will remain in this case. In Dorico, ties sounds often prevent things from working properly (accidentals, dynamics, etc.). Personally, I’ve chosen to insert the tie at the very end of each inputting ; this save my time.

Well, in that case I think that a private message to a friend belongs elsewhere and not in this forum. Sure, it’s a small thing and I wouldn’t have minded a small off topic comment if it was written in English (a friendly mood is a good thing for a forum as long as it doesn’t get too much so it gets in the way of the on topic talk), and maybe it’s a silly thing for me to be annoyed about, but annoyed I get…

Anyway, I have now voiced my opinion, so I’ll shut up about it now. (Deciding and interpreting the forum rules is a task for the moderators, not for me.)

For which, of course, we have direct messaging available right here in the forum.

Thank you for the good etiquette reminder, @Rikard.
