I don’t know how this mode is called… I mean the one where I enter notes and I have the little notehead moving around with the mouse.
I use it often and I wonder if there is a keyboard shortcut to activate/deactivate it quickly.
Or if the mode has a specific name, so I could try and make a shortcut myself.
But I still also have to deactivate the “select” arrow at the top left for the mode I mean.
If the “select” arrow is active, shift-N will show or hide the cursor, but not the aforementioned “little notehead” moving with the mouse, and I can’t enter notes by mouseclick. So it’s still a different mode.
(At least that’s what happens using Microsoft Surface 9).
I’m not at my Dorico computer right now but you can set a key command to toggle the Select tool on or off, in Preferences > Key commands. I believe it’s called Disable Mouse Input under Note input. You can then deactivate the Select tool with a single key after activating Note Input.
I set a key command for this myself a while back because I was used to mouse input for many years in Finale (and was pretty fast with that), but in Dorico it didn’t take me long to migrate to qwerty keyboard input. For me, that turned out to be a lot faster (although I still use my mouse when I need Finale).
