Activation Limit Reached

I have Dorico activated on one computer and am trying to activate it on a second one. It hasn’t reached the maximum of three computers yet, but somehow it says that I’ve reached my activation limit.

Major updates of the operating system or the replacement of hardware components can change the ID computed to identify the computer. In this case, the old ID is orphaned but it still occupies a license activation.
You can release the activations online in the Products section of your MySteinberg account and then activate the license on up to three machines again.

Got it. I’ll try that. Thank you for the response!

@j_v, if you’re really using Dorico 3.5 as the tag on this thread indicates, then that’s the reason: eLicenser-based products can only be activated on a single device (either a single computer, or a single USB-eLicenser that can be plugged into any computer where the software is installed). If you want to be able to run the software on up to three computers for your own personal use, update to Dorico 5, which uses the new Steinberg Licensing system.

Hi @dspreadbury , I am in fact using Dorico 5. Is there any way for me to have it activated on both computers?

You probably need to remove the two unavailable activations first. Afterwards you can activate Dorico on two more computers. Here’s information on how to release orphaned activations in your MySteinberg account:

@j_v, you must have another Steinberg ID with your Dorico license attached to it, because looking up the account used here on the forum I don’t find any Dorico licenses. If you still need help, please send me a direct message to let me know the Steinberg ID where your Dorico license is located.
