At present, Dorico only allows images to be inserted at the page level. With text, however, there are two options: you can use a text frame on a page, or you can add system text directly to a specific bar within a flow. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent for images.
Dorico’s support for multiple flows is one of its great strengths, making it very convenient to work with multi‑movement works or collections of shorter pieces. However, when the position of a flow changes, or when the number of bars increases or decreases, the page count shifts and any images placed in page templates must be manually adjusted one by one. This undermines the advantage of Dorico’s automatic pagination with multiple flows.
While this pagination issue needs addressing in its own right, the ability to attach images directly to a specific flow or bar would also enhance Dorico’s multiple‑flow functionality. It would allow images to move with the music, rather than being tied to fixed pages, and would therefore preserve one of Dorico’s core strengths.
