I experienced two oddities in the “Add Ensemble” functionality that I’m curious if anyone can confirm for me (using v 5.1.70.2200)
- I started typing “timp” and it brought up the option for “Timp., B.D., Cym.” so I selected that. It did not add Timpani at all, but added Suspended Cymbal (that is acceptable) and Kick Drum (not the “bass drum” I would expect in this context)
- I decided to try creating my own ensemble with those three instruments so that I would have a correct version. I created an ensemble with Timpani, Bass Drum, and Suspended Cymbal and saved it. When I went back and tried to add it, it had changed my Bass Drum to Kick Drum. There IS a Bass Drum instrument that I can add as a single instrument, so why is the Ensemble replacing it with Kick Drum?
Further troubleshooting info…
That was all just typing and using the mouse or arrow keys to select from the “auto complete” from the “Build” section.
If I change to the “Choose” section, and go to those ensembles, they show the correct Bass Drum, they add the correct Bass Drum, but they show “Clash Cymbal”, yet add a “Suspended Cymbal” instead.
I’m so confused! LOL
Thanks for reporting this, Steve. I had a look at the issue, and what’s happening is that Dorico is getting confused between adding the instruments defined in the preset ensemble and interpreting the name of the preset as custom input, as if you had typed those three instruments yourself. This is a bug, and one I’ll make sure gets fixed in a future version.
For the time being, you should find that creating the ensemble from the Choose page rather than the Build page works as you expect.
