"Add FX to Selected Channel" dialog inherits source track color

Add FX to Selected Channel dialog inherits source track color instead of FX track default color

Hi,

When using “Add FX Channel to Selected Channels” (right-click in the MixConsole or Project Window), the Add Track dialog automatically pre-fills the Track Color field with the color of the source track — rather than using the default color defined for FX channel tracks.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create an audio track and assign it a custom color (e.g., blue).

  2. Select that track and right-click → Add FX Channel to Selected Channels.

  3. In the Add Track dialog, notice that the Track Color field is already set to blue (the source track’s color).

Expected behavior: The Track Color field should default to the FX channel track type’s default color, as defined in Preferences → User Interface → Track Type Default Colors, not the color of the source track.

Current workaround: Manually clicking the color swatch in the dialog and selecting “Default” every single time — which adds unnecessary friction, especially in large sessions.

Request: Please add a preference or change the default behavior so that when creating an FX channel via “Add FX Channel to Selected Channels”, the Track Color defaults to the FX track type color rather than inheriting from the source channel.

Thank you!

There is a setting in Preferences for auto color mode. Make sure it is set to:
Use Track’s Default Color.
