This ought to be simple but I can’t parse it. Dorico 5 Pro. I’m painstakingly recreating my old Finale templates as we must migrate elsewhere into an uncertain future. I have a full big band template (5+4+4+rhythm) formatted as per my needs from the Dorico default choices and I want to add a vocal staff. Anything I’ve tried has at best just added a second voice to Alto I at the top of the system, not at all what the score needs to show. What am I missing?
Welcome, @rebeto.star
To create a new vocal staff, create a new Player.
I’d suggest a “Section” player. (There’s a few differences between what Section and Single Players can do.)
If you’re doing that, and it’s not working, you’ll need to give us a bit more information about what’s going on. (After a few posts and reads, you’ll be able to upload screenshots and even project files.)
Purple macOS highlight!
Thank you that worked! But it put the vocal atop the piano/rhy section (which is probably more orthodox). I would prefer it to be at the top of the score so I guess I now have to figure out how to re-sort things. A whole lot of re-learning after migrating from 20-ish years of Finale.
Cheers
Hi rebeto.star,
in Setup Mode you can just drag your voice “player” to the right place, for example above the other players to the top of the score.
There is an automatic Sorting option, if you look at the bottom of the left panel in Setup Mode. I always change that to “None” to avoid an automatic sorting.
I wish, this could be the default, btw…
Yup thanks. First thing I tried and alles gut.
