A. Lyrics, I think I understand. Only issue is trying to add roman numeral analysis under the tab staff. At this point I think Dorico cannot handle it without a very steep learning curve on my part (which I just don’t have time for because of deadlines “Damn, yous Finale, Damn yous all to hell!”.
B. What is the best way to add analyses to lyrics; object or staff? Will a label move with the object, and/or measure if it is moved, to the next system for example.
C. Is there a way to attach text to the tab staff? It seems to cast above the notation text creating more space between vocals and notation.
Kevin,
A) I am just wondering, why there are so many dashes and why your syllables look misaligned to the notes. How did you input your Lyrics? Did you use the popover Shift-L?
B) You can use System Text. Select the first note of that bar in your vocal staff and use the popover Shift-X. This text will always stay attached to that rhythmical place, even if you change your layout.
C) Here you can input again as System Text. It will display above the staff, but you can then select it and Flip it to underneath that staff: select the text, then hit F.
A. I had the same or similar problem with Finale that I am having with Dorico; I had to input Roman numeral anlysis and lyrics which are both done via the lyrics input. For the sake of time I input the lyrics in a text box to be later updated.
B. Do you mean the space or the note? If I move the notes in that measure and input new notes, does the text follow the notes, or stay attached to the space?
C. Ok, gonna try that. Thanks
B) System text is attached to the rhythmical position. Which means, you can change the notes or move them back and forth, it will not affect the System text.
ps. Please use the Lyrics popover to input your lyrics.
pss. I don’t see Roman numeral analysis in your screenshot.
I have MusAnalysis but do not yet understand how to input lyrics for the vocals and create the analyses UNDER the tab staff. I am assuming level/voice one attached to the notes in the vocal. However, roman numeral analysis won’t attach to the tab and locate under the staff automatically. My initial intention was to Engrave everything as close as I can to how I had it in Finale. Then use Finale numerics to create the analyses in photoshop. Tons of work, but Dorico is not quite there yet on roman numeral analysis. I think it’s geared to working composers and is slowly catching up for teachers’ and guitarists’ needs. Dorico is so much better but I am like the captain on the Titanic…all my (Finale) experience is working against me. haha
Is there a way to hide the stems of the vocal part? When I select them, it says to click “hide” in the properties panel, but that does not show up.
Yes, you can hide the stems. You will have to be in Engrave Mode, select the note (and not the stem) to show the property “Hide stem”:
There a way to select multiple noteheads?
Yes, there is a way. In Write Mode select all, then Filter (by Notes and Chords).
…finally switch back to Engrave Mode to set the property.
