Hello, I have a question about adding dynamics in a grand staff. Each time I try to add a dynamic marking, Dorico only attaches it to the specific voice I’ve selected (usually to the rest in that voice), instead of treating both voices as one line always need to use Engrave Mode.
Is there a way to make the dynamics apply to both voices on the staff automatically? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you !

Can you show a sample document, or a screenshot, at least?
By default, a dynamic on a grand staff should apply to all voices, unless you specifically assign it ‘locally’ with Alt Return in the popover.
And dynamics normally don’t appear on rests. They should appear at the first note of a selection.

Sorry I attached an image — I’d like the f to appear in the spot I circled in red
If I select both voices and add a dynamic marking, two separate dynamic symbols appear😅
Thank you so much!
In your first image, you have attached the hairpin and dynamic to the bottom staff. In grand staff music, it’s customary to attach them to the upper staff, and Dorico knows that the dynamic should affect both staves by default.
One way to get this is:
- Enter Note Input mode in the first measure in the upper staff and move the caret to the eighth rest
- Type
<
- Advance the caret with the space bar to make the hairpin appear; the caret will advance by the currently selected duration, so an eighth note duration works well
- Keep pressing the space bar until the caret reaches the C eighth note
- Type Shift+D, then
f and Enter
Another approach is to enter the hairpin and forte on the bottom staff, as you have it in your first image. Then select both the hairpin and forte and press Alt/Opt+N to move them to the upper staff. Finally, drag the forte over so that it’s under the C eighth note.

And now @benwiggy, @NorFont.com, or some other designer will have to make you a new dynamics font called Magellan.
