Sorry if this has already been discussed, I could find anything about this exact issue. Just curios why Dorico creates an extra hairpin in this situation, where I’ve forgotten to add a dynamic at the end of the hairpin. I’m curious if there’s a better way to handle this? I’d also like to understand why this happens. Thanks!
You might find a more reliable result if you select the bar rest immediately after the end of the hairpin, input a fresh pp there. Dorico should automatically show it to the left of the barline (as there’s no note in that bar, only rests) but if necessary, you can press Ctrl/Cmd-Alt/Opt-Left arrow to nudge the pp rhythmically to the left (in increments set by the rhythmic grid, shown in the bottom left of the window).
