I am working with a tutor book. But I wonder how can I number Lessons. It should appear just before staff like staff label. But it is not needed for all staves
As far as I know, this is not a built in feature yet. If you search the forum for e.g. “etude numbers” you’ll find a number of different methods.
One method (which I find the cleanest in the sense that it requires no manual page overrides, but it can be tedious) is to use one flow per lesson and a separate player for each flow. You can then change each player name to the appropriate lesson number:
Make sure that each flow only includes the corresponding player. You can do that by selecting each flow in Setup mode (bottom panel) and making sure that in the Players column, only the corresponding player’s checkbox is checked.
Next, in Layout options>Staves and Systems, tell Dorico to show player names in staff labels:
If desired, change the appearance of the numbers in Library>Paragraph styles>Staff labels.
If you want multiple lessons on the same page, go to Layout options>Page Setup>Flows and select this option:
You’ll also probably want to set Show Flow Headings to Never (same panel, just a little bit lower).
You could perhaps have two columns of text frames with matching music frames, and use the token {@flownumber@} in each text frame.
According to the manual, if the top border of the text frame and music frame are aligned, the number of the flow in the music frame will appear in the text box. You would just need to ensure you start each flow in a new frame.
In theory, I think these would display as staff labels would?
Thanks, Let me Try
But the flow numbers are not alliened with the stave . I need the number at the begining of the stave as in the attached file

in this I added the number as text above the first note and moved to the position in engrave mode. It very hard job since there in no guide lines to snap posotion
I’ve just used Rehearsal Marks for this in the past. Gif below:
You have to get the positioning correct with some trial and error, but once you do, they are obviously easy to input and have automatically aligned.
(Dang, #3 bar 2 should be Ab not G# for the last note, oh well)
Awesome.
Is there a way to allign the flow number on the side just before the stave
It seems to be a very good idea Let me try Thak you very much
I tried as you explained. But one issue I cant hide the first empty stave which belongs to the first player
Yes…. I think:
Make sure that the text frame is the same height as the music frame, then select the text frame and open Properties. You will see a property there called Vertical Alignment. Make sure this is set to Center and I guess that should work provided the staff is centered vertically in its frame?
Finally I have Done Thank You very much
