Hi everyone! Does someone know hoe to add Playing Techniques (for Guitar) but using Symbols Like “Up Bow” or “Down Bow”? The arrows provided to Strum Up and Down are very similar and not so clear to read fast. My clients are used to the Symbols I used in Finale for 10 years… Being on this forum is a kind of relief of “feeling lonely” to learn things… Thanks for always support me.
shift-P up and shift-P down should find them.
As well as that, the Edit Playing Techniques dialog will show you all available playing techniques and allows you to create a custom popover text for them.
I am using the Strings articulation! Trying to find shortcuts for Up Bow and Down Bow. Does anyone knows it?
Did you try the entries up and down, as @Janus suggested?
Didn’t work, but I’m new user… Would be awesome if I can create shortcuts for up and down, it will save time
That’s not what I need. It’s faster with the playing technique tool. I want to create a shortcut fot the symbol (like using a simple key on the keyboard! Is it possible?
Once you have created one, you can select it and use alt-click copy it to many places at once. It is much faster putting all these markings in a single pass after you have entered your notes.
Let me try to explain. I do guitar transcriptions and I have to put the Up and Down stroke in every played note. They aren’t a pattern, it varies according to the situation. So it’s kind of impossible to memorize every Up or Down stroke in a line or sheet.
In my limited knowledge, the short answer to your question is: No. Believe it or not, you can’t create a one-key shortcut for a Playing Technique within Dorico, unfortunately. And yes, to mouse them in from the Playing Techniques panel is faster than using the popover, although also cumbersome. I think that some users use an external tool to do this like a StreamDeck.
You could use a third-party app to create a macro that would write the playing technique popover entry for you (Keyboard Maestro on Mac, AutoHotKeys on PC) or make a feature request for keycommands for specific playing techniques
The Team is listening!
Don’t underestimate how effective and fast it is to alt-click stuff on the page. I would probably enter one upbow and one downbow and alt-click them to wherever they need to be. Much faster than using a dedicated keycommand, unless you select all the appropriate notes and press your keycommand once.
A tool like Streamdeck or similar is also another option.
I am not a “tech guy” so I imagine I’ll live with that while the Programers or creators “invent” these tools for us. No problem, it takes more time but that’s life. Thank you all!
Patience is a virtue and you are clearly a patient person. However, it may be a long wait before this capability is added to Dorico. You might ask for exact instructions (from someone who uses this, not me) on how to set this up using Keyboard Maestro, AutoHotKeys or a StreamDeck. There are a great number of very helpful people on this forum who can explain it and it would save you enormous time.
Thank you John! I know this is just the first steps into a world of doubt and uncertainty about how to deal with the software… and for sure not the most mind blowing ones!
I understand completely. When you are more comfortable with Dorico there will be plenty of time to mold it to your own uses.
