My problem may be similar to the one reported in a 2020 post, “Pedal playback bug - Not releasing after 2nd repeat”; and also to a 2024-2025 thread “Sustain pedal playback not following pedal marking”, with several Dorico users reporting odd interactions between pedal lines and repeats. Neither thread seems to have resulted in a satisfactory explanation and/or solution.
Anyway: I’m using Dorico Elements 6 to transcribe a low-fi piano tune I’ve heard & like (have no way of finding the composer, alas). I’ve got a section with an 8-bar melody that repeats twice; this is section A. The tune goes into a bridge, section B, and then in section C reprises the same 8-bar melody from section A. I wanted the exact same 8 bars, so I copy-pasted them from section A, not including the pedal line. I then recreated the pedal line to what I had pasted. I have tried four different times, with slight differences in method, but no matter how I perform the copy-paste, I end up with what sounds like the pedal being held down for all eight bars, with retakes being ignored.
I am using the marquee for selecting. I scrupulously avoid selecting bar numbers and system tracks. Doesn’t matter if I display in galley view or page view when selecting. Doesn’t matter if I avoid the repeat bars and put them in after, or include the repeat bars as part of the selection and resulting paste. Tge first couple of tries I didn’t select the pedal line from section A because it connects to previous bars I am not copying; thus I recreated the pedal line; but that shouldn’t be a problem. I also did try breaking the pedal line ahead of the wanted eight bars, so that I could include the pedal line in my selection; but that didn’t help.
So what is going on? Am I copy-pasting incorrectly, or is it a bug? I can simply hand-enter the notes again, but this is laborious and defeats the point of having a copy-paste feature in Dorico.
